Coursework Submission
The College of Science has an online system for submitting and issuing receipts for all hard copies of assessed work.
How Do I Submit Coursework?
If your work is produced as a hard copy (i.e. on paper), you will need to follow the instructions below to submit your work.
If your coursework is an electronic submission, follow the instructions provided by the lecturer.
0. Login
- You should login to the College of Science Intranet.
1. Print Cover Sheet
- On the Intranet homepage click 'Coursework Submission'.
-
You should be presented with a list of all courseworks, such as in this example image:
-
Find the coursework you wish to submit and click the 'Cover sheet' link.
- If the coursework you're looking for doesn't appear in that list, contact the module's lecturer.
-
You will be shown a preview of the cover sheet and instructions for where to submit your work, for example:
-
If your work is late, see the instructions below for applying for a penalty waiver.
-
Click the 'Print Cover Sheet' button or tell your web browser to print the page.
- The cover sheet will be printed, for example:
2. Staple The Cover Sheet To Your Work
- Make sure the cover sheet is securely attached with a staple. If the cover sheet comes loose from your work it may delay marking.
- Ensure you are attaching the correct cover sheet to your work. Stapling the wrong cover sheet to your work will delay marking.
3. Hand In Your Work
- The specific instructions for handing in your coursework will be printed on the bottom of the cover sheet, and at the top of the cover sheet page in your web browser.
- For most pieces of work, you'll be instructed to place it into a dropbox. See below for the locations of these dropboxes.
- Pay attention to the labels on the dropboxes to ensure you are placing your work into the correct slot.
- For Biosciences, Geography and Maths, place your work into the slot with the appropriate module code on the label.
- For Physics, place your work into the slot that corresponds to your level.
- For Computer Science, there is a single dropbox for all work.
- See below for details of the locations of these dropboxes.
- If your work is submitted late, see the important note below.
- For some larger pieces of work (project reports, etc) you may have to hand the work directly to a Teaching Administrator (TA) in your department.
4. View Receipt
- When your work has been taken from the dropbox and processed by a TA, you will receive an emailed receipt.
- The receipt is your proof that your work was received by the department.
- An example receipt:
- Work that has been received will appear under the 'Received' header on the coursework list page.
What If I Want to Submit Late Work?
- If your work is being submitted late and you have a valid reason, you may apply for a penalty waiver so you won't be penalised.
- The penalty waiver application is a separate cover sheet that you print and hand in to your departmental TA with any supporting evidence (for example, a doctor's note).
- To print the penalty waiver form, click the box labelled 'Penalty waiver application', then print the page.
- When submitting late work, you may have to put it into a special dropbox.
- Currently, only Biosciences and Geography students have to put their late submissions into the slot labelled Late.
- Students in other departments should put it in the normal slot, as indicated in step 3 above.
What If I Want to Submit Work Early?
- Follow the normal procedure, outlined above, for submission of work any time before the deadline.
What If I Can't Print the Cover Sheet?
- It is a good idea to print your cover sheets as soon as each piece of coursework is set, instead of leaving it until the last minute.
- Printers may be available in your department - speak to your departmental TA for details.
- Printers are provided for student use in the University library, you can print your cover sheet there.
- If you have no way of printing your cover sheet before the deadline, your departmental TA may accept your work if you hand it directly to them. You can only submit one piece of work without a cover sheet, after this no work without a cover sheet will be admitted.
Where Are The Dropboxes?
What If The Coursework Isn't Listed?
- If you want to submit work and the coursework doesn't appear in your coursework list, please contact the lecturer for the module.
